Hi, my name is Nika. I study architecture at UBC, one of the top 40 universities in the world, with a minor in Chinese.
I’ve been the kid who walked into a new classroom mid-year with no idea what was going on, in two different countries. I’ve learned seven languages, and how to start from scratch many times. That is why I tutor.
There is no such thing as “a dumb student” or “not a math kid”. The classroom was just built for one type of learner, and if your child isn’t that type they spend the whole day confused, coming home saying “I didn’t learn anything”. My job is to understand how your child learns, and then teach them that way.
Outside of tutoring I compete in science fairs in Japan, Thailand, Indonesia, Dubai and Africa, mathematics competitions, chess, karate and public speaking. I know what it takes to get good at something, and I have used the same system with over 100 students.

Your child’s first session is 50% off, so I can make sure I can actually serve them and that it is a fit. You will know after one hour, not after one month.

Questions parents ask
How much does it cost?
Single sessions are $110. Weekly sessions are $400 a month, paid monthly, and include access to me between sessions for the questions that come up mid-homework. Your child’s first session is half price either way, so you can see how it goes before committing to anything.
What subjects do you cover?
Everything from kindergarten to grade 12. For younger students that means reading, writing, math, science, French, art, study skills and homework support. For grades 8 to 12 it means math 8 through 10, pre-calculus and calculus, English and essay writing, biology, chemistry and physics, languages, art, provincial exam prep and university application prep. If your child needs something that is not on this list, ask on the call. It is not exhaustive.
Where do in-person sessions happen?
Across North Vancouver and West Vancouver, either at your kitchen table or in a quiet room at your local library branch. Anywhere else on the North Shore is worth asking about. If you are outside North Vancouver or West Vancouver, online sessions work anywhere in Canada or the United States, with the same shared whiteboard and the same preparation behind them.
How long are sessions, and how often?

Does online really work for younger kids?
Often yes, but not always. It depends on the kid. Online sessions use a shared whiteboard we both write on, so it is closer to sitting side by side than to a video call. For most children from about grade 3 up it works well. For younger students, or anyone who finds a screen hard to stay with, in person on the North Shore is usually the better call. We can talk it through on the first call.
What actually happens on the first call?
You talk, mostly. I want to hear what is going on at school, what homework looks like at home, and what your kid says about it themselves. I will ask about their teacher and their marks. Fifteen minutes, no pitch, and at the end you get a straight answer on whether I think I can help.
What if we need to cancel or reschedule?

How will I know if it is working?
You get a short note after each session covering what we worked on, what clicked, and what is still shaky. Nothing is dressed up. If progress stalls, you will hear it from me before you see it on a report card.
